This year, it's not so much that I've made a conscious decision to shop indie, it's just that I've discovered some really awesome stores online - that just so happen to be Independents. In honour of #shopindie #shopsmall #shoplocal and all the other hashtags that are promoting choosing Indies over chains this Christmas, here's a little insight into some of my favourites. N.B. all glorious imagery has been taken from the indies site's themselves. All credit due.
Oliver Bonas is an Independent British lifestyle store. I especially love their printed shirts, design-led homeware and own-brand range of candles. FYI the Winter Trio candle box set is sheer festive indulgence. They pride themselves on minimalist design with traditional skilled craftsmanship.
GQ describe Trouva as: "the web equivalent of those cool curated shops you find off the beaten track". You'll find 100% organic cotton textiles, an eclectic range of shelving and storage, a selection of art and prints from Independent boutiques and enduring wardrobe essentials - to name but a few.
Osmology are a specialist scented candle shop based in Bristol. They source the world’s most exciting scented candle brands and home fragrance designers. I discovered these guys after falling in love with Nomad Society (and Banana Pancakes in particular). Don't look any further for adding to your candle collection.
A so-called friend introduced me to Stack after discovering my obsession for Independent magazines. I am since significantly out of pocket and storage space. Cheers, pal! For any fellow magazine collectors or publication fiends in your life, a Stack subscription will fill them with glee on a monthly basis. Take it from me.
The Future Kept is a selection of inspiring Home Decor & Lifestyle products from independent designers and makers. Beautifully crafted gifts, ceramics, candles and a passion for well designed, durable, meticulously chosen goods are the ethos behind TFK. Expect lovingly wrapped deliveries and hand-written notes within.
It was to my delight that I recently discovered London-based concept store, Tea & Kate. They sell unique design-led giftware and products for your home. I'm a huge Kate Pugsley fan and came across Tea & Kate on the hunt for her prints. For gorgeous gift cards, unique ceramics and minimalist finishing touches - find them here.
Residing in Cheltenham, Olive are a British contemporary lifestyle brand. They combine heritage with modernity, simplicity with playfulness, and street style with understated elegance. Or, quite simply, they stock knitwear and dresses to die for.
Do you have any favourite Independent shops to share with me? I'd love to discover them.
